1. Elope

Take your idea of an intimate wedding extreme by choosing to elope in one of the world’s most beautiful countries - Scotland. The best thing about eloping in Scotland is that you can set your own rules and choose your favourite mountain, glen, beach or city. You can invite the immediate family to share the celebrations before you whisk yourselves for a weekend away!

2. Choose a destination

A destination wedding is also another common way that couples choose to celebrate an intimate wedding. Destination weddings aren’t always overseas and can be done within the UK. For example, if you live in London, you can plan a destination wedding in the Scottish highlands or the capital city of Edinburgh, or it can be that you live in the East Coast in Aberdeen and fancy tying the knot in the West Coast by the spectacular mountains of Glencoe. The more travelling involved, the more likely that you’ll have fewer guests to celebrate your day, so you’ll have the intimate wedding you’ve always dreamed of.

3. Write your own rules

Fancy a formal, three-course dinner at a luxury restaurant in the capital city of Edinburgh? How about a weekend away in a wonderful Scottish lodge? The advantage of having an intimate wedding is that the choice is yours - and you can write your own rules.

4. Set the scene

Planning an intimate wedding means you’ll need to find a wedding venue that is the right size. Some traditional Scottish castles, country houses and hotels could swallow your party up with their cavernous spaces on offer so plan early and seek out venues designated for intimate weddings.

5. Make a weekend of it

Escape together on a romantic weekend in the Scottish highlands for the thrilling landscapes, or Edinburgh city for the city centre boltholes. The choice is limitless!
