What to Write in a Wedding Card

Someone close to you is getting married and you want to show them how much they mean to you and how happy you are to be celebrating - but, you’re stuck for ideas. Don’t worry! For whatever kind of message you want to send, there’s a whole range of ways to get that message across perfectly.

Golden Rules for Wedding Cards

Whilst you have the creative freedom to write whatever comes from the heart, there are some unwritten rules for wedding cards;

Address both people within the couple: You might be closer to one of the individuals getting married or close to both - whatever your relationship is to either person it’s important to congratulate the couple as a pair and wish them well.

Write a draft first: If there’s an occasion you want to use the right words, it’s definitely this one! Write out a draft first with things you might want to say so that there’s no room for errors and the pressure isn’t piled high.

Make it memorable: This card will last a lifetime long after the celebrations of the day have passed. Write what you feel and let it come from the heart, share memories and show personality - it’ll make it enjoyable for the happy couple to read through.

Thank the couple: Thank yous never go a miss! Make sure you thank the couple for inviting you to be there on their special day.

Things to Avoid

Misspelling names: Take extra care and effort to ensure you’ve got the right spelling of each individual's name and you don’t make any errors!

Too much text: Whilst it’s important to tell the couple how much they mean to you, try to get everything you want to say into a readable amount. No 1000 page novels! The couple will have a whole host of messages to read through so it’s best to keep the text to a digestible length!

Last minute scribbles: As mentioned before, write a draft first - this will ensure you know exactly what you want to say and it will come across perfectly. No last minute scribbles where you have the potential to mess up. Preparation is key!
